an evolving 3D driving sandbox · oddmood
A car is grown, not drawn. Each body is a genome. The genome defines:
The design becomes a physical car. The driving program stays fixed. The evolution changes the body, not the brain.
The design takes its inspiration from boxcar2d.com and the release of Box3D.
The game is a loop. 20 bodies race the same track each generation. The farthest distance covered sets the ranking. The fittest bodies breed the next generation. Crossing and mutation add the variety.
The finish line doubles when the best car reaches it. As a result, each generation must clear a harder course. Bodies are breakable: a hard impact sheds a segment into debris. The breeding must grow the segment back.
Solo view shows one car at a time. The camera follows the live car. Pack view shows the whole population racing at once. Both views show the same races the game already ran. What you see is what was scored.

The on-screen strip shows the same controls: play/pause, skip, reseed (a fresh population), pack, speed (1x to 8x), and the helix toggle. The helix toggle runs evolution in the background while you watch.
